Welcome

“When we are enlightened, we will be fully awake to our deepest nature, which is fundamentally open-hearted, open-minded and available for others. . .”

Pema Chodron

One of my early teachers describe his life vision as “To Grow in Wisdom and Increase My Capacity to Love,”  I was very inspired by his words and have shaped my own mission statement to be very similar.  In service of that mission, I believe that offering real life skills for developing awareness, wisdom, healing and compassion is the greatest gift I can offer.

Meditation

In my experience and that of colleagues and students, I have found that a fundamental tool for developing wisdom is meditation, I provide training and on going support in a range of Tibetan Buddhist meditation techniques including “Meditating with The Body”© Reginald Ray PhD (deep relaxation and breathing techniques),  basic sitting meditation practice (shamatha,) “ compassion practices (bodhicitta), and simple sadhanas (deity yoga)

Reiki

A powerful way to offer loving healing to ourselves and to others is the energy healing technique of Reiki. I offer Reiki treatments for personal balance and healing and Reiki training (Reiki 1, 2 and Master) for those who are inspired to offer Reiki healing to others.

Reiki is a hands-on healing technique that originated in Tibet. It was later re-discovered by a Japanese monk, Mikao Usui in the late 19th century. Dr. Usui was dedicated to healing and was eventually (through his students) responsible for the spread of Reiki throughout Japan, Europe and North America. Reiki is an accessible and effective way to tap into the universal energy for healing of oneself and others.

The meaning of the Japanese word Reiki lies in it’s two syllables: “Rei” means universal and “ki” refers to the vital energy or conscious that is named “Chi” in Chinese traditions and “Prana” in yogic traditions.

You have been an inspiration to me along with the support that you graciously provided for me when I needed it most.

I greatly appreciate Melanie's holding and presence, as well as her compassionate and thoughtful responses and reflections.
Kathleen G.U.S.
Melanie led a group of students in a Sutrayana Mahayana course a number of years ago and agreed to lead out group, since joined by others, in biweekly meetings since then. She is a very smart, skillful and compassionate leader and the group is such a valued part of my practice.
Andreas H.Germany
I have known Melanie B. and worked with her for well over seven years now. She was my meditation teacher, mentor, and is currently leading an online Buddhist practice and study group which I am part of. During all that time, I have come to consider her as a "Noble Friend", as Buddhists would call it. I particularly value her authenticity, clarity, competence, reliability, and her clear sense of direction when guiding people, all the while being very discrete and never giving advice when not asked for it. In short, to me she is the embodiment of a boddhisattva.

Why Choose Golden Devi?

The main reason for choosing Golden Devi is that my offerings are founded on the depth of my knowledge/experience and the deep care I have for my students.

I have studied, practiced, and taught meditation for almost 40 years.  I offer teaching and practice in the areas I have found most inspiring and beneficial in my own life. My approach allows students to develop the ability to deeply relax, learn to be “embodied” in their practice and daily lives. If a student is inspired to, she/he can go on to work with simple compassion practices and some basic sadhanas (with visualization and mantra practice.)

“Like the two wings of a bird, Wisdom and Love are inseparable expressions of our natural awareness. The wing of Wisdom is our clear understanding of the …nature of reality. The wing of Love is our capacity to respond to whatever we experience with a tender, caring and appreciative heart. …these two wings of awareness carry us to our…awakened Being”.

Tara so beautifully expresses the inspiration for Golden Devi. We all have the “golden devi” or deva (Sanskrit for goddess or god) within us. It is a matter of dusting off the debris and touching into our true nature.  The tools and techniques offered here, honed and tested over hundreds of years, are designed to do just that.

Services

I provide a variety of services – meditation as one-on-one or group sessions, reiki treatments for 45 minutes – 1 hour sessions and four (4) levels of reiki training classes.

Prices

My prices are intended to be mid-market for both treatments and training, i.e. not the highest or the lowest in the GTA.  In special cases, applications for a reduced price will be considered based on the client’s ability to pay.  All payments must be made before the treatment or class.  Currently cash or eTransfer are the accepted methods of payment.

"The human body is already and always in the meditative state, the domain of awakening - we are just trying to gain entry into that."
